2023 Thomson Reuters + NAMLE Student and Classroom Contest

July 16, 2023 - October 14, 2023

Thomson Reuters, in partnership with NAMLE, is excited to announce our annual Media Literacy contest for students and classrooms!

ChatGPT and artificial intelligence are changing the way we communicate and how we see the world. These new technologies complicate everything from how we know what’s true to what we consider authentic art or creation. While we don’t yet know the full scope of how these advancements might help or hinder society, we do know that critical, ethical thinking around these developments is key. This year, we are asking students in the U.S. and Canada to think about the ethics behind artificial intelligence technologies like ChatGPT. Specifically, we are asking:

What are the most important and ethical principles technology developers should consider as they shape the future of artificial intelligence?

Students are invited to share their thoughts with us via video submission. We encourage teachers to leverage the resources we’ve created to present this as a learning opportunity in their classrooms.

WHEN: The deadline for submission is October 13, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. ET.

WHO: The contest is open to middle and high school students from the United States and Canada.

PRIZES: Up to five (5) students will be selected from this contest to receive a virtual mentorship opportunity with a Reuters journalist.

SUBMISSIONS: Please submit using this link.
